The book has some very important advice for job seekers in Germany. First of all, it clarifies how difficult is the job-market in Germany and how complicated is to get through the long path, which already helps the candidates not to stuck in frustration.A central topic is the so-called "German Angst", knowing that the people are making the interviews are afraid themselves to select the wrong candidate, gives the opportunity to flip the table and set yourself in a more comfortable position.Some pages of the book are filled with obvious advice, like calling the hiring manager can be more successful than apply on a web platform, which may be a novelty for some people, but for sure not for other Europeans. Additionally, it seems that the author sponsors too much its coaching service, that's why I would only give 3.5 stars as a total evaluation (Ok, I love positive round off).P.S. For the author: If you consider writing a third edition please remove the sentence: "We could maybe be a bit more flexible in a few things, but at least we have the rule of law in place and aren't afraid when we see police".Rule of law works in many other countries, there are other reasons why Germany is nowadays a leader country!
Many things about hiring process and hiring culture in Germany became a way clear for me after I finished with this book. I especially like the way how Chris explaining all depths of German job market by showing a mindsets of people who are in charge of hiring. Ones these aspects became clear, your self-confidence boosts to the new level, and you can focus on things that really matter, and not blaming youself. In once sentence - this book helps to focus on things that matters for getting a job in Germany. Recommending you guys!
While the book gives some good advice on strategies to find a job, as mentioned by other reviewers the advertisement part is pushed to the extreme, ending almost every chapter with a "cliffhanger", that the solution for your problem (finding a job) is going to be provided soon. If the book was more about going into details about the specialties of the German job market, and less about trying to sell the author's services, I would surely recommend it, as it does answer the very real questions a lot of expats are having, while looking for jobs in Germany. In its current form though, I cannot recommend this book to anyone, you can find the same advice on the internet for free.Initially, I wanted to give 3 stars as my rating, to motivate the author in improving his book, however after seeing his comments berating on all the (very detailed) 1-2 star ratings of his book here on Amazon, I decided to go for the 1 star rating myself, to consider the personality and the attitude the author is displaying.
It was very interesting to read. Not only for job search, but also to understand German culture.It helps for job search process, but it also will help to adapt in the German work culture, I believe.Thank you Mr. Chris Pyak!
Great book! Great read and most important from lecturing it is that Chris is acting like a special fisherman not "fishing" for people, but teaching them how to " fish" for themselves.
