If you like to know how the Chines economy is functioning today this is the book for you. The author is not just explaining things about Alibaba, but all around the Chinese economy and how things are done there.There are small parts that are explaining other big Chinese IT companies that are Alibaba competition that I really liked. All is backed up by numbers.Most interesting for me was to find out a bit about the way Jack Ma thinks and makes decisions. He is a man that came from nothing in Communist China and made one of the biggest companies in the world. Definitely worth a read.
This book is hyped for no reason , initially was very excited about the book but later on while reading I found that it's just a very monotonous book. Lot to do with Chinese economy , very poorly written, seems like some direct translation of Chinese to English . Overall kind off "OK" book but nothing great.
A list of facts with very little insides. No real inside into the market or the character. Also reads a bit biased.
A very interesting story. Curious to see what he will do next. A Must read !
Ein "must-read" Buch für alle junge Enterpreneur
Das Buch beschreibt die Entstehungsgeschichte von Alibaba, eine Software-Plattform, die chinesische Käufer und Verkäufer zusammenbringt. Sie macht das in China, was in etwa eBay im "Westen" macht. Der Autor möchte auch Hintergrunde darlegen, warum eben diese Firma erfolgreich und eben beispielsweise eBay in China gescheitert ist. Zufall, Glück oder die Persönlichkeit des Gründers/Visionärs oder etwa die Fehler von Mitbewerbern? Hier kann sich der Leser sein eigenes Bild machen.
Für alle die Chinas Wirtschaft verstehen möchte, ist das das Beste Buch seit einigen Jahren. Ich hatte Duncan 1998 in Schanghai kennen gelernt, und bin sehr beeindruckt von nicht nur seiner chinesische Sprach-, Kultur- und Fach-(Telekom)Kenntnis, sondern auch seinem Ausdauer (Viele von uns leben schon lange nicht mehr in China). Einige Protagonisten im Buch sind mir auch persönlich bekannt. Ich finde Duncans Beschreibungen über denen auch sehr treffend sind.
Meiner Ansicht nach, gibt dieses Buch einen guten Einblick in die Entstehung und Entwicklung von Alibaba. Auch wird deutlich die Rolle von Jack Ma hervorgehoben sowie auf die individuellen Eigenschaften eingegangen. Sicherlich spielt hinsichtlich der rasenden Entwicklung der Standort und das beschriebene direkte sowie indirekte Netzwerk eine entscheidende Rolle zum Aufstieg von Alibaba, was ich erstaunlich finde wie gut dies in diesem Buch dargestellt wird. Oftmals wird bei solchen Büchern nur an der Oberfläche gekratzt, was bei diesem Buch meiner persönlichen Einschätzung nach nicht der Fall ist. Würde dieses Buch jedem zum empfehlen, der zum E-Commerce-Hype Alibaba mehr erfahren möchte.
